Youth & Children Camp -
with
focus on worship planning and creative arts in worship
|
|
Guitar Instructor: Dr. Ken Wilson and Loren Toy
This class will
include accompanying group singing, creative strum and finger-picking
patterns for accompanying, extended chord voicing, and an introduction to
solo guitar playing.
The advanced level students will focus on advance accompanying techniques,
solo work for worship leadership, and a survey of guitar literature
suitable for worship. Students MUST bring their own guitar (a classical,
nylon stringed guitar preferred.)

Handbells Instructors: Dr Melody Chen and
Beth Singleton
The ancient art of
ringing the bells in church towers has given rise to its modern day
offspring of handbell ringing. It is an art that is beautiful to see as
well as to play and hear. The teamwork and musicianship required by this
class make it great fun, but also a study in the building of Christian
community. Must be able to read music to attend this class.

Ensembles
Determined by audition on the first day of camp. Students will benefit
from individual coaching provided by the instructors and resident quartet.

Liturgical
Dance Instructors: Vanessa Chipe
Liturgical
dance at its core is dancing to one's ability, expressing spiritual emotion
during worship. Like singing in the choir or praying with the
congregation, liturgical dance is a reflection of our faith and an act
of worship. It is a way to express feelings and emotions through
dance. At CCCMIW we will explore what it means to dance as an act of
worship showing reverence, inspiration, and personality!

Determined by audition on the first day of camp. A larger group
experience. The Orchestra will study literature from the classical
repertoire appropriate to the musician's abilities.

Scripture
Dramatization Instructor:

The Bible reading
does not have to be "snooze time" in your worship service.
Students will study, practice and present innovative presentation of
scripture. Selected texts used in the worship of the conference will be
presented by this drama group. Group II will address some advanced
techniques and will be open to those who have had this class in past years.

appropriate keyboard music to play for worship. This class will cover basic
and creative hymn playing as well as accompanying techniques.

Voice

Liu, Dr. Craig Singleton, Dr. Samuel Cheung, Susan Cheung, and Stella Hau.
Students will be
placed indifferent groups according to their singing experience. Beginning
students will learn the basic principles of vocal production including
posture, breathing, phonation, and diction. Advanced students will work on vocal
production with the emphasis on solo singing.

Help for the
Worship Team that leads contemporary worship has arrived! Resources, organization
and rehearsal techniques, electronic and amplification considerations will
all be addressed.

Youth
Choir
Conductor: Stephen Lin and Dr. Craig Singleton
Your packet of
music will guide you through some exciting and fun choral music that will
be used in worship and sharing with the entire conference. The experience
of worshiping through the sacred choral music is always a highlight of the
camp. be ready to dance, sign, sing in another
language and praise God with your voice. Students must purchase the choral
package at the camp.

This class offers
four different levels from beginning to advanced.
Participants for the advanced conducting classes must prepare an anthem or
a choral piece from a major oratorio for audition. (Please prepare two
extra scores for accompanist and instructor.)

All participants are
strongly encouraged to attend this class. Choral repertoire and techniques
will be studied. A great opportunity to learn some new music and prepare
for the worship service on the closing day.

Diction
An important part of singing
is to have correct diction. This class will address some of the problematic
words for singing, and identify the correct sustainable vocal sounds for
all language. all participants are strongly
suggested to attend.

A practical study of how
to become a more effective congregational singing leader in worship.

Sight
Singing Instructors: Maw-Shen Chen and Christine

For those who love to sing
but can't read music, this class will help you improve your sight reading
skills with a lot of fun.
